Colourful Meal-Soup

To Give or Keep for Yourself

Material

  • Ingredients for the recipe (enough for all children)
  • 1 Mason jar per child

Steps

  1. Place all the ingredients and Mason jars on the table.
  2. Ask the children to fill the jars by following the recipe.
  3. If the children are younger, you could make it easier for them by measuring the spices in advance (they only need to add the pre-measured spices).
  4. Print the recipes on the computer, the children just attach the labels to their jar.
  5. Tell them they’re making lentil soup like Esau.

Recipe

Serves 4

Content for 1 gift jar:

  • Red lentils, 60 ml (1/4 cup)
  • Green split peas 60 ml (1/4 cup)
  • Barley, 60 ml (1/4 cup)
  • Beef broth powder 40-50 ml
  • Dried parsley flakes 2 c. soup
  • Dehydrated onion flakes 2 c. soup
  • Dried thyme, 1/2 tsp. tea
  • Pepper, 1/2 tsp. tea
  • Dried basil, 1 tsp. soup
  • Vegetable fusillis 60 ml (1/4 cup)

Steps

  1. Place the ingredients in layers in a 1/2 liter mason jar with a wide opening.
  2. For good results, use transparent jars which you will decorate with what you have on hand: raffia, coloured ribbons, mini-decorations, etc.

Recipe To Write On The Label

  • Pour the contents of the jar into a large pot.
  • Add 2 to 2.5 l (8 to 10 cups) of water.
  • Add a 28 oz (796 ml) can of diced tomatoes.
  • Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer slowly for an hour or until lentils are tender.
