For I Can Do Everything Through Christ, Who Gives Me Strength. (Philippians 4:13)

Material

  • 1 Potato
  • 1 Straw

Steps

  1. Invite a helper to join you and challenge him: pierce the potato with the straw. It won’t be easy!
  2. Let the helper try to take on the challenge while you continue to talk to the children.
    • Sometimes you have a task or challenge that seems almost impossible with your talents and your own strengths. You even say, “God, I can’t do this!”
    • It is true that sometimes it is really impossible … by our own strengths. But with God, it is possible. All we have to do is call upon God who gives us the strength to do what we thought was impossible to do. (But beware, God is not our servant to do for us what we do not want to do!). The Bible says: For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.. (Philippians 4:13)
  3. Take the straw and plug one end with your thumb. And all of a sudden, the straw will easily pierce the potato. Make the analogy that with God’s help, what seemed impossible to us, becomes possible, wonderful things happen.
  4. How does it work? In fact, by blocking the end with your thumb, you block the air inside the straw. By pushing it into the potato, the air pressure in the straw will increase, which will make the straw stronger and allow it to enter the potato without twisting.
