You need an accomplice for this object lesson. Before the lesson, add your partner’s phone number to your contacts, but rather than use his name, write “God.” So when he calls you during the lesson, the name “God” will appear.
At the beginning of the lesson, ask your contact to call you. Show the kids that you have a phone from “God.”
Tell the children: “It’s like God is calling me to tell me what I need to do to be happy, or safe and blessed. Wouldn’t you take a phone call from God? The children say yes! Then you should always follow God’s commandments.”
Continue: “That’s what Joseph lived. A messenger of God appeared to him to give him instructions as to what he should do. He did it.”
Read Matthew 1.24 “When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.”
Finish by saying that when we obey, we do it immediately, without complaining, joyfully. That’s obedience.
