Repel Sin

Material

  • Bowl with water
  • Pepper
  • Small bar of soap (preferably heart-shaped)
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar

Steps

  1. In this experience, pepper represents sin, sugar represents the life of sin and soap represents a good, just life.
  2. Put water in a bowl.
  3. Sprinkle the pepper in the water. This represents sin and injustice.
  4. Continue and tell the children that if we make righteous choices and have a pure heart, we will repel sin. As shown in James 4. 7, “Submit yourself to God. Resist the devil and he will flee.”
  5. Then demonstrate this truth by dipping the soap in water and watching the pepper run away to the sides of the bowl.
  6. Then sprinkle the bowl with sugar and see with the children that the pepper is attracted to the sugar.
  7. Explain that life is unfair and that bad choices will attract sin.
  8. Place the soap in the water once again so that you finish the experience with the sin “fleeing” away from you.
  9. Judas could have repelled what was before him (treason), but he decided not to push it back.
