Jeremiah’s Rolls

Material

  • 2 paper towel tubes
  • Rolled kraft paper
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Coloured pencils
  • Construction paper
  • Sticker
  • White glue
  • Ribbon

Steps

  1. Before class, make sure the paper towel tubes are the same size as your paper. If the paper towel tubes are longer than the paper, cut the tubes to the same length with scissors.
  2. Distribute 2 tubes to each child and a large piece of kraft paper.
  3. Ask the children to apply white glue directly to one of the paper towel tubes.
  4. Ask them to roll the top of the paper on the tube. Make sure it’s straight.
  5. Then ask the children to apply another line of glue to the paper.
  6. And ask them to keep rolling until the paper completely covers the tube.
  7. Ask them to spread the paper out so they have enough for both rolls.
  8. Ask them to repeat the gluing process at the other end of the paper.
  9. When dry, ask the children to decorate the rolls by writing a note or a drawing. They can also add colour, paper or stickers.
  10. At the end, ask the children to add a ribbon for the final touch. To do this, they must roll each tube towards the center and tie them with the ribbon.

Optional

  • You can use recycled paper grocery bags instead of kraft paper. If you use a bag, cut the paper on the sides to open it lengthwise.
